There’s only a week left to make sure you get a shirt for the Fox 5K and 1-mile Fun Run/Walk, to be held Sunday, Oct. 25, at Arnold City Park on Bradley Beach Road near the Meramec River.
Those who sign up for the event by Monday, Oct. 5, will get a shirt in the size they choose -- a dry-fit shirt for entrants in the 5K and a cotton T-shirt for those in the 1 mile.
People may still register for the event through the morning of Oct. 25, but they will not be guaranteed a shirt.
The 5K will start at 9 a.m., and the 1-mile at 10 a.m.
The public is invited, and entry costs $20 for the 5K and $10 for the 1-mile. Proceeds will go to the C-6 Educational Foundation, a nonprofit group that is run independently from the Fox School District but that provides educational and welfare grants to benefit students throughout the district.
At the event, participants will receive free water and goody bags filled with coupons and other surprises.
A trophy will be awarded to the overall male finisher and to the overall female finisher in the 5K. Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each of the 5K age categories -- up to 19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59 and 60 and older.
In addition, the Fox district school that brings the largest number of students, staff, parents and others to the event will receive a "Fitness Champs" trophy.
The 5K and run/walk also will include music and other fun activities.
Texas Roadhouse in Arnold will have its mascot, Andy the armadillo, there, and the restaurant will offer a game for children to play and will hand out appetizer cards and other goodies, although no peanuts will be distributed due to allergy concerns.
Rock Community Fire Protection District will have a truck there for kids to explore, and Rock Township Ambulance will have personnel on hand in case of medical emergencies.
While the family-friendly event will feature a lot of fun activities, serious runners will like it, too, because the course is not only flat and fast, but also scenic, since it winds through the park and along the Meramec River. In addition, Fleet Feet is providing chip timing, as well as registration
Race packet pickup will be from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Fleet Feet South County store, 12494 Tesson Ferry Road, or prior to the race on Oct. 25 at the park.
If you are with a particular school and want to be counted toward the "Fitness Champs" contest, be sure to let organizers know when you pick up your packet.
To register for the event, go to fleetfeetstlouis.com and then click on the "race" link and then "fleet feet races" and scroll down to the Fox 5K.
