Fox C-6 Teachers meet to discuss and learn together in Summer 2017

{August 1, 2017} ARNOLD, MO – 530 Fox C-6 School District teachers participated in Professional Development (PD) opportunities this summer. The district offered 250 hours of PD on a variety of topics aligned with our evaluation tool in order to help implement best practice instruction around the district. Last summer, approximately 340 teachers participated in summer Professional Development and the district hopes to continue to see a positive trend in participation.

“This summer we focused on going deeper into topics that we have been focusing on over the past few of years,” said Dr. Amy Zielinski, the district’s Director of Professional Development. “We also wanted to offer additional topics based on teacher feedback, such as special education topics and early childhood literacy and math instruction.” Focusing on these topics will help support the district’s goals of expanding Early Childhood classrooms throughout the district and better preparing students for entering Kindergarten. “It’s incredibly exciting to see the growth in our teachers because that directly translates to growth for students in the classroom,” Zielinski said.

In July, the district also hosted the Adding It Up StL Math Institute for K-12 math teachers from the St. Louis area. Fox C-6 hosted national speakers and facilitators to discuss math education with teachers throughout the region. “We were extremely proud to host this conference and our neighboring educators,” Zielinski said. “It’s empowering to see our own teachers leading Professional Development workshops for other teachers in the region.”

In addition to summer PD, the district has scheduled PD days for teachers and staff throughout the calendar year. “Our focus is always driven by the desire to make each and every one of our students an expert in something they love to do by the time they graduate,” said Superintendent Jim Wipke. “Supporting our teachers and staff with Professional Development helps us make sure every student in the Fox C-6 School District finds success.”
