Seckman Elementary Students Compete in Regional Math Competition

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO • On Satruday, March 28th, The Seckman Elementary Math Team competed in the 30th annual Missouri Council of Teachers of Mathematics (MOCTM) Regional Math Competition. The competition was held on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University with 29 schools and 290 students competing.

Seckman Elementary students competed in a variety of categories. Here are the results:

Number Sense:

4th Grade:          Sanel Catic -- 2nd Place

5th Grade:          Ethan Reed -- 4th Place

                                Connor Flaherty -- 4th Place

                                Caleb Ray -- 1st Place

Sprint Event:

5th Grade:          Ethan Reed -- 5th Place

                                Caleb Ray -- 1st Place

Target Event:

4th Grade:          Brandon Rhodes -- 3rd Place

5th Grade:          Caleb Ray -- 4th Place

                                Ethan Reed -- 2nd Place


5th Grade:          Ethan Reed -- 3rd Place (State Qualifier)

                                Caleb Ray -- 2nd Place (State Qualifier)

In the Team Competition, Seckman Team A missed going to state on a tie-breaker, coming it at 6th place.

This was the 29th year that Seckman Elementary has competed. The 11 ribbon winners this year ties the second highest school record for wins at this competition.
