Calling all Dads! The NASCAR Wallace Brothers to Speak at Kickoff!
On October 7, 2013 the Fox C6 School District will kick off a new program encouraging all dads, stepdads, grandfathers, uncles, and father figures to become involved in our schools. The innovative program is called WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) which focuses on education and safety in schools by using the positive influence of fathers and father- figures for a two-fold purpose:
- to provide an unobtrusive fathering presence, and
- to provide a positive active role-model for students at school.
We are reaching out to fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and uncles to spend at least ONE Day at their student’s school volunteering. WATCH D.O.G.S. is a father involvement program offered by the National Center for Fathering and has been recognized by the US Department of Education and the US Department of Health and Human Services.
These men are not teachers nor are they acting as school resource officers. Dads of Great Students are fathers and father figures (grandfathers, uncles, and other male adults) who are asked to spend at least one day a year at their child’s school volunteering as a positive role model and an extra set of eyes and ears. Their mere presence may offer additional security at the school during the day.
The goal for our district is to improve the well-being of children by inspiring and equipping men to be more effectively involved in the lives of children. At this time we have 5 schools that have volunteered to pilot this program in their school community. Guffey & Fox Elementary, Seckman & Antonia Middle Schools, and Fox High School. It is our goal to have this program spread to all 19 school buildings in the district.
What an incredible task - fathers can assist in helping schools prevent school violence and improve student performance while being involved in their child’s education.
The WATCH D.O.G.S. Kickoff will be at held at the Fox C6 Service Center at 6:00 pm on October 7. Former Fox High school alumni & NASCAR Racer, Kenny Wallace, will be in attendance to support this great program along with some St. Louis Rams Cheerleaders. Pizza and drinks will be provided. Dads bring your children to attend the event. We ask that you RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org or at any of the schools listed above.
So Dads….we ask that you get involved!
