9/16/2014 BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

ARNOLD • The Fox C-6 Board of Education met on Tuesday to discuss District Achievement, the state audit, the 2014 tax rate, and many other topics. Some highlights from that meeting are outlined below. For a full meeting agenda, please click here.

  • State Auditor’s Office:
Representatives from Missouri Auditor Tom Schweich’s office were on hand to explain the audit process to the Board and community. Though the public were encouraged to send any concerns to the auditor’s office, it was also explained that no updates on the audit process will be provided during the investigation. That information will be kept confidential until the auditor releases a final report. The actual investigation is estimated to take 2-4 months, with an equal amount of time spent preparing the report itself. Those estimates can change as the investigation develops, but the office hopes to finalize the report within a year. The investigation is set to begin this coming Monday, September 22nd. The district will bear no burden of cost for the investigation, which is being paid for by the state.

  • District Achievement Data:
Dr. Lorenzo Rizzi, Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education, presented information related to the district’s academic achievement to the Board. The presentation explained how the state collects data to measure a school district’s accountability. The data showed areas in need of improvement for the district as well as areas where student achievement has grown. This data will be used to develop a district-wide plan to help students find success and illustrate that success to the state. To review this presentation, please click here.

  • District Finances:
Last week, Governor Nixon released funds that will flow into K-12 Education. Also, since the Governor’s vetoes on certain tax breaks were upheld, more funds are expected to go to schools throughout the state. CFO John Brazeal estimates that this boost in state funding will balance the budget for the district for the current year.
Brazeal also presented a 2014 District tax rate of 4.598, which the Board approved.
