The meeting opened with the introduction of two new administrative hires. Mr. Randy Gilman was approved as the new Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education. Mr. Gilman has been principal of Meramec Heights Elementary since 2004, where he has received numerous awards and recognitions for his work with teachers and students. Mr. Gilman began his educational career in 1995 as a 5th grade teacher at Fox Elementary before becoming an assistant principal at Lone Dell, Clyde-Hamrick, and Antonia Elementary schools. Mr. Gilman has a specialist degree in educational Administration from Southwest Baptist University and is currently nearing completion on an Educational Doctoral Program at Missouri Baptist University.
The Board also approved Mr. Declan FitzPatrick as the new Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction. Mr. FitzPatrick earned his Master of Arts in Teaching English from the University of Chicago in 1994 after completing undergraduate studies in English Literature and Performing Arts at Washington University in St. Louis. Mr. FitzPatrick has been an educator since 1994 and has held numerous leadership positions in Professional Development and reading. In 2006, he became the Reading Specialist for the School District of Clayton before taking his current role as Curriculum Coordinator for the School District of University City in 2008.
Mr. Jeremy Donald was also approved as the new Bridges Principal. Mr. Donald has been interim principal of Bridges for the past year. The meeting also saw the introduction of two new Board Members, who were elected earlier this month. Sherry Poppen and Chris Hastings took their oaths of office before the meeting began. The Board then voted to re-elect John Laughlin as Board President. Steve Holloway was elected vice president. Both Mr. Laughlin and Mr. Holloway were the only nominations to those positions.
Fox C-6 CFO John Brazeal presented promising financial data for the district, showing positive trends in district finances. The Board went on to approve the replacement of building roofs, a long overdue project for the district. The Board also approved the purchase of 60 new school buses to replace outdated fleet vehicles. The bus purchases are expected to save the district money on maintenance cost in the long term and will make transportation of students safer and more uniform.
