District UPDATES

Dear Fox C-6 Community,

All schools and campuses will be closed on Monday, August 21st, 2017. This includes the district Character Kids Club program. With our district in the direct path of the solar eclipse, we cannot fully anticipate traffic and logistical issues that might arise. The decision to close school is a difficult one and I appreciate our community’s understanding and support as we have examined this issue from every possible angle.

In making a decision to cancel school I try and be as thorough as possible. I have take a lot of time examining the implications of the eclipse and what effects it would have on our area. After discussions with local authorities including the Arnold Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, as well as our Transportation Department, and the Missouri Department of Transportation, I have made the decision not to have school on the 21st.

We are dedicated to providing a quality education to all of our students, which means when conditions allow, we will have school. Student safety remains our primary concern. Estimates predict that in our area alone, there could be an increase of visitors and travelers ranging from 1 - 1.5 million people. In order to have school, I need to be confident our first responders could be at any of our schools at a moment’s notice.

The eclipse is a wonderful learning opportunity and we owe it to our students to weigh every option. However, student safety remains our top priority and with the increased population in our area and the increased demands on our first responders, I do not feel it is wise to keep our district open. As such, all campuses and buildings will be closed on August 21st.

Please know that our teachers will still work with students to provide safety information and academic context to this once in a lifetime event but unfortunately it will need to be done prior to the eclipse. Every student will receive the sun-safe eclipse viewing glasses should they wish to view the event with their family.

Once again, all classes are canceled and all campuses will be closed on Monday, August 21st, 2017. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we worked through all of the predictions and information to help make the right decision for our students.
