Boundary Report and Proposal

BACKGROUND

Adjusting boundaries was a priority outlined by the committee throughout the Comprehensive School Improvement Planning (CSIP) process. All members of the community were invited to participate and provide input in this process to develop a final plan for the district over the next five years. At the beginning of the 2016-2017 school year, the District began communicating its efforts to meet two major priorities of the CSIP by examining sixth grade and attendance boundaries. 

The following report and proposal are the result of collaboration between school district administrators and a committee of Fox C-6 parents representing every feeder pathway in the district. It was adopted at the January 24, 2017 Board of Education Meeting.

  1. Balance Middle School Enrollments

Middle School building capacity not utilized to account for two middle school teams per grade level

Middle Schools are on target with their capacity, providing room for growth while still maintaining enough enrollment for two middle school teams per grade level.

  1. Balance Elementary School Enrollments

Some buildings were over utilizing their capacity while others had capacity and lacked students.

Boundary adjustments account for growth in areas of need and the transition of sixth grade classrooms out of elementary buildings provides additional capacity.

  1. Consider and Plan for Enrollment growth and/or Enrollment shifts

Boundaries had not been examined or adjusted since the opening of Antonia Middle School in 2007. No long-term growth planning.

Newly developed subdivisions and areas slotted for development have been assigned to buildings with capacity, allowing longevity in the event of increased enrollment due to growth.

  1. Maintain or Improve Efficiency of Student Transportation


Nearly $800,000 saved by improving the efficiency of transportation routes throughout the district.

Limited adjustments to transportation miles or travel time, keeping student transportation efficiency high.

  1. Simplify the Feeder Pathways

19 distinct feeder pathways for the district with certain groups of students going to middle or high school with only a handful of their peers.
