April 11, 2017} ARNOLD, MO –The Fox C-6 School District congratulates Mrs. Chris Keisker of Meramec Heights Elementary for being named the 2017 Fox C-6 District Teacher of the Year.
Mrs. Keisker has been an educator for over 20 years and currently teaches 5th grade at Meramec Heights Elementary. In addition to teaching, Chris is also active in the community where she is valued for her commitment to Girls on the Run, her organization of the science fair, and for being a Boy Scouts leader.
Still, her greatest passion is the classroom, where she strives to know students as whole person, not just how they display skills. “From the fourth grade on, I knew I wanted to be a teacher,” Chris said of her professional biography. “My definition [of teaching] has remained consistent,” Keisker said. “That every child can learn.”
“I believe Chris only agreed to apply for this award once she realized it would be an opportunity to highlight students here at the Mac [Meramec Heights Elementary],” said Principal Dustin Bain. “She’s a huge part of our community here and we are both proud and lucky to have her working with our students.”
Dr. Bain’s sentiments were echoed on social media when news of her achievement spread. “One of the best,” wrote more than one Facebook commenter. “[Mrs. Keisker] is the teacher you never forget,” said fellow teacher Lori Breyfogle. “You leave her classroom knowing you were unconditionally loved and pushed to do your best.”
To become a building Teacher of the Year, and to qualify for the District honor, teachers must be nominated by a fellow teacher, administrator, parent, or student. They must then complete a comprehensive application process to demonstrate excellence both inside and outside the classroom.
“Selecting a District Teacher of the Year from our pool of dedicated, thoughtful educators was extremely difficult,” said Superintendent Jim Wipke. “I cannot express how thankful I am for each and every one of our staff members who make countless sacrifices to better the lives of students. We have phenomenal staff here and we value taking the time to really thank them for all they do for our community.”
Thank you to all of our community members for nominating teachers and making it an incredibly close decision. “I hope we all take a few moments out of our busy schedule to thank each of our friends and colleagues for their work and support,” Wipke said. “Thank you to all of our staff members for creating a community where students and staff alike can find success.”
Mrs. Keisker will now have the chance to represent the District as a St. Louis Regional Teacher of the Year.
